The Essential Coffee Roasting Course is an online, self-paced course for professional coffee roasters who are new to roasting and want to follow a formal curriculum to fast-track learning or are self-taught and want to check that their bases are covered. The course is also designed for those who run small operations with gas-fired drum roasters, but much of it can be applied to those who roast on other or larger machines for bigger companies, too. Course concepts can be immediately applied at work to add value to your business.
The online course includes 14 instructional videos, a 125-page companion workbook with in-depth material about roasting concepts, links to complementary readings, and downloadable activities, charts, checklists, and forms to help you learn and get started running a safe and compliant operation. There are 7 review exercises, 2 quizzes, and a final exam. Upon completion of the course, you will receive a certificate of completion.

Rob Hoos is a coffee roasting consultant and the director of coffee for Nossa Familia Coffee in Portland, OR. Rob is the author of Modulating the Flavor Profile of Coffee and has been a roaster since 2008. He has extensive experience in the specialty coffee industry, including roasting, training, purchasing and profile evaluation. He is a subject matter expert for the Specialty Coffee Association (SCA) and conducts coffee roasting workshops online and in-person at his lab in Rainier, OR.
Ildi Revi, M.Ad.Ed. is the course designer and author of The Essential Coffee Roasting Course Companion Workbook. She has designed and conducted educator training for over 25 years for companies, educational institutions, government projects, and NGO’s. She is Ally Coffee's Director of Learning and a Q Arabica Instructor. She lived and worked on a coffee farm for 13 years and has been a roaster since 2004. She managed the design and development of all the SCA courses with subject matter experts at SCA and has delivered classes to coffee professionals around the world.
